How to Get Your Business Into the Google 3-Pack
The map pack is the most valuable real estate in local search. Here's what actually determines who gets in.

What the 3-Pack Is and Why It Matters So Much
The "3-pack" is the map with three highlighted local businesses that appears at the top of local search results — above the standard organic listings, and the first thing most searchers see and click. For local-intent searches, the 3-pack routinely captures a disproportionate share of clicks compared to organic results below it, which makes it the single highest-value target in local SEO.
The Three Ranking Factors Google Uses
Google has been explicit that 3-pack ranking comes down to relevance (how well your profile matches the search), distance (proximity to the searcher), and prominence (how well-known and well-reviewed your business is, both on Google and across the broader web). You can't change your physical distance from any given searcher, but relevance and prominence are both fully within your control.
Improving Relevance
Choose the most specific accurate primary category available (not a broader generic one), and make sure your business description, services list, and posts genuinely reflect what you offer — mismatched or overly broad categorization is one of the most common reasons an otherwise strong business misses the 3-pack for an obviously relevant search.
Improving Prominence
Prominence is built from review count and quality, citation consistency, and overall web presence — including press mentions and backlinks. It compounds slowly rather than responding to any single quick fix, which is why businesses that treat their profile as an ongoing asset (steady reviews, regular posts, consistent activity) tend to hold 3-pack positions more durably than ones chasing a single tactic.
