The Short Answer

If your site loads slowly, looks dated compared to competitors, performs poorly on mobile, or simply isn't generating the inquiries it used to, it's likely time for a redesign.

A quick way to check: pull up your site next to two or three competitors on your phone. If yours feels noticeably slower or less polished, visitors are almost certainly noticing the same thing.

Clear Signals It's Time

A noticeable, sustained decline in leads or traffic that isn't explained by seasonality is one of the clearest signs something has changed — either your site or the competitive landscape around it.

If your site hasn't been meaningfully updated in three or more years, design standards and visitor expectations have likely moved past it, even if nothing feels obviously broken.

What to Check First

Test your site on a phone, not just a desktop — most visitors experience it there first, and problems are often more visible on mobile than they are on a wide desktop screen.

Check your load time; anything over three seconds is actively costing you visitors before they see anything, regardless of how good the content is once it loads.

A Simple Test You Can Run Today

Pull up your homepage on your own phone using a normal cellular connection, not office wifi, and time how long it takes to fully load. If it takes more than three or four seconds, or if buttons and text look cramped, that's a clear signal worth acting on.

Compare the experience to two or three direct competitors doing the same test — if theirs feels noticeably faster or more polished, that gap is costing you leads right now.
